the men scream for seconds before they stop and cain stands.

 

"Fuck!"

 

he grwolls as he sends a jagged spire of metal toward the mob and jumps beside burias.

 

"Where is krieg?"

"Second line!" Burias told him. He formed and launched a phoenix strike at the mass of people still rushing them, not really caring wither they soldiers or civilians in the mob.

cain yanks him by the sruff toward the line as one of abregas tanks roll forward and begin firing at a abrams parked in the middle of the field.

 

"they are fielding more....This isnt good."

 

he says as he gets ot frieg and begins his work.

 

"Burias.....go inside and get jacob...I need him for something...but do me a favor, do not let him see the field yet...Pleas."

"Scheiße, ok just please becareful." he tell him before darting back out of the trench and toward the facility. He switched the channel of his comm unit back to the squad members under his command. "Support Cain and Krieg as best as you can." he ordered as he ran, hoping jacob was somewhere obvious but safe.

you get inside the facility and jacob is sitting in the corner of the room, right beside the hulking stalk stitch.

 

"You draw well .."

 

he says as he pushes over some crayons and jacob smiles.

 

"YOu look like a teddy bear....if it was covered in blood and skin.."

 

stitches laughs and looks at burias coming.

 

"Your friend is coming."

"Hi Jacob, Hi stitches." he greeted, out of breath before walking over to Jacob. "Dad wanted me to get you, need your help." he said as he picked him up. "But I want you to do one thing while we get there, keep your eyes closed and hands over your ears. Please?" he asked of the boy, not sure how else to fufill the request his brother wanted him to do for Jacob.

jacob looks up at his father and cain toches his sons head .

 

"Jacob...Can i speak to your brother please? I need his power for something ok?"

 

Jacob shifts uncomfortably, but unwilling to defy his father, he closes his eyes and opens them. Unmistakably, the deep blue eyes are now all black, the irisis impossibly big as he looks at his father.

 

"Joseph.."

 

he says as the boy nods and cain stands him up.

 

"I need you to do what you did back at the base...I need you to tell one of the stories i told you as children....Preferably the story of the black company at the battle of stockade.

 

Joseph nods and stands.

 

"just tell me when to begin dad.:

 

he says as he walks away to the back lines to get himself prepared.

 

"Burias.....Have everyone get behind the lines and make a firing line......Do not go past the line of tanks under no means am i understood?"

Not sure what was going on, Burias just gave a nod of Acknowledgement before moving to get behind the line of Arx Destortes python tanks while flipping his com unit to the company wide channel. "Fall back to behind Aberga's tanks and reform the defensive line there now!" he told them, hoping his tone encourage people to not question and only do right now.

cain pushes krieg past the line and breaks into a run toward the enemy, standing over the ruin of a tank as joeseph raises into the air.

 

Like the coming of a vicous storm, black wing begins to lash the line with rain, and a thick blanket of fog begins to buffet the field.

 

"Burias.....when i tell you..Drop an Archimedes on me ok?"

 

Cain commands, as he stands on the tank, coating himself in the iron of his tank.

"...Ja...Sie wissen besser, was zum Teufel du tust." Burias said with great reluctance. Holding a hand to the sky, Burias tries to form up an Archimedes high above as the battle rage on around them. The voices were quiet, as if content to simply watch the events unfold instead of critizing what he was about to do to his brother.

Cain stands there as bullets plink off his armor, and Joseph begins to talk.

" at the battle of stockade.... The black company fought for days.... Entrenched in mud and blood as the rebel forces overtook the line."

The fog began to resolve itself into silencers, standing above the corpses of the silencers that had fallen in the skirmish and raising their weapons, firing into the enemy.

" the battle was vicious.... The war cruel...."

In the distance burials can see an jeep with a log distance percussion cannon, setting up to shoot Jacob out of the air

With him still charging up the strike for Cain, Burias worked his comm unit with his free hand and set it to Colonel Aberga. "Percussion cannon, direct front, take it out!" he said quickly, hoping aberga had an appropriate solution.

the cannon is taken out, but as jacobs story unfolds, you notice something terrifying.

 

the shadows are taking shapes...Men you kno. Men from the darkest depths of the companies history. Men known for vicous warcrimes coalece into shape and set upon the fleeing chinese forces.

 

Like animals they tear into the foe as cain hisses over the com.

 

"Cancel the arcimedes burias...Take out any spotters and make sure jacob finishes waht hes doing!"

"Make up your mind bruder." He grumbled to himself. Instead of making the strike vanish, he sent it down toward the rear of the chinese force, thinking that there more than likely is where the bigger guns would be that would try to target Jacob.

in the fog, you see something that catches your eye.

 

a single solitary shadow has stopped attacking, and turned to look at you.

 

your blood runs cold, the man looking into your eeyes is non other than the old silencer commander Altiel......A vicous war cri9minal, one you butted heads many times with before his death.

 

 

His record was long, his kills legion. But it always bothered you the excess he went to with operations. YOu had been the one to kill him at the battle or Hectors cross, sliding a knife between his ribs well away from the conflict under kriegs order.

 

Now he stands again, a vicous shadow , but in its eyes burns  savage intelligence as it leaps down and begins sprinting toward you

"Cain....going to say hi to Commander Altiel." he said into the comm, a tinge of anger and fear in his voice. "You want a rematch?! Lets go!" Burias challenged the shadow, not caring if he understood or was even listening, before unleashing a cone of flame straight out at the charging man.

You hear cain ask as he is similarly tackled into the woods by a figure weaing a black company mask lost long ago.

 

Altiel slams into you as if he was made with flesh and bone, you seeing the cadaver beneath the whipses of fog that he is posessing.

 

'Hello boy.."

 

he hisses, getting atop you and straddling you with his legs as he begins pummeluing your sides.

 

"long time since you gutted me eh?"

"To be fair, you were gutless to begin with." Burias hissed before he lunged his head forward to slam his helmeted cranium into the possessed corpse in an attempt to knock him off. He couldn't help but feel like it was all playing over again since they last fought.

you see the flesh beneath crushed and pulped , but altiel only hisses , trying to hook his thumps under your gorget to get at your throat.

 

"Im going to drag you to hell with me boy!"

'The body isn't important, the shadows are.' the voices reminded him as his vision started to blur. "We are already there though." he strained to say before using his pyromancy to ignite both himself and Alteil in a two man bonfire.
