he looks at burias and the fleshheap in his head seems to recede from the fore of his mind as if hiding.

 

"So, instead of just following my failsafes...Noctournew jumped the gun and forced the procedure. She didnt realize you cant just introduce brain matter from a ppatriarch creature. So when cain say humans nearby, noticed he was caged...he attacked."

 

A look of sadness fills his eyes for a moment.

 

"Jacob...Joseph././.....Jessica....They werent supposed to die there cain.."

 

Cain winces at the words, but watches his father warily.

"So.....why...Why were they weaponized..."

 

Augustus sighs and lights a ciagrette

 

"Because you had to have something to strive for...or uyoud have given in and never sought to control coreus.... You  wouldve contently stayed a murder until you were killed."

"....Don't you two every talk to each other, at fucking all?" Alduwin asked Augustus, referring to him and Nocturne. He could hardly believe that a simple breakdown in communication is what lead to what they were dealing with now. "I mean, that's what I'm hearing so far out of this." Alduwin said, almost accusingly so. 

Burias shrunk back from Augustus as well out of reflex with Dekkanorus, as if his father was here again. "Not his fault, animals defend themselves when they get attack. It's who sent us out there to get Epsilon that knew and not us." Burias said as if trying to excuse the flesheap. He would have done the same for Titan or Coreus if they were given the same look.

Augustus pinches hithe bridge of his nose.

 

"I try...but she is wary of me. Has been ever since nightmare woke up......Thats when she started all these weapon projects without my say so."

 

he lets out a plume of smoke and smiles.

 

"ALl in all....Tragedy aside you are doing wuite welll...You all are."

 

He pulls his cigarrertte to the filter and smiles to aldwuin.

 

"And yes...I married cains mother breifly and we seperated....She tried to murder me several times."

"Well, knowing you that's somehow not surprising." Alduwin said as he shook his head. He paced around for a little bit, trying to have his own thoughts, before he spoke to Augustus again. "So what you're saying is even if I try something, she probably won't listen because you're involved?" he asked him. He was trying to put something together to help. Too much has changed since he's been put on ice and he like almost none of it so far. He would have centuries of problems to probably turn around if he tried to get them back to where the three of them were before cryo. If this could be fixed at all.

Burias looked up to him and saw how frustrated he was with everyone it seems. He knows that feeling, he's been there himself often. "Hey, we can go meet Moria and the vorboten if you want. I am sure they would like to see you." Burias offered, hoping to cheer him up.

Alduwin looked to Burias and gave him a tired smile. "As much as I would like to see the woman who put up with him, and see how drachenblut has been. I doubt he's going to give me the time Urenkel." he said as he patted Burias' helment, pointing a thumb over to Augustus.

Aughustus says, tossing cain a cigarette as if he had asked.

 

"its about time cain and i spoke...."

 

He winks and nods.

 

"Well be staying here for the night...We will leave when they leave"

Alduwin gave him a wary look. "....Why do I have the sinking feeling you're planning something?" He asked him directly. He knew Augustus for too long to not expect an ulterior  motive for him wanting to say for so long especially when there was so much to be done from what he said before. "And you really want to stay around Godzilla back there?" he added. Burias just stood next to him, somewhat pulling at Alduwin's armor to get him moving while looking at cain to see what he was thinking about being with Augustus for awhile. Burias himself was a litte anxious at the idea.

he waves ald off as cain gives burias a nod.

 

"Go have some food made bur..Ill join you soon ok"

 

Cain turns away and begins talking to his father, lighting the cigarette

Burias nodded and began forcefully dragging his great grandfather who only shook his head and followed Burias. "Come on! Eva, Natasha, and Olga will be excited to see you! Especially Sasha! She's my sister, so that would make her your great grand daughter! And then you can meet Moria, talk about all the things Augustus does that annoys both of you, have a laugh, hope she will not kill you, have a good time. Oh! Then, then, meet Juilee! She was my only friend when I was a kid, she's the one Augustus mentioned,  she's here with us cause she's a soldier too now with Osa, cain knows here, we meet Haas and Jason and Yuki and melinko and Lorana, she's grandfather's wife, my grandmother so you definetly need to meet her, and stabby whose always protecting her....you know what you need to meet all of black company!" Burias went on and on before coming to the realization, jumping with joy. It was if he had a father figure now that could be proud of not just him, but all the people he consider family where Aldolpho didn't. Alduwin just laugh and smiled, happy Burias seemed to able to make friends with even the oddest of people. In essence, it seemed Burias and his own son seemed to be the only people who embrace what drachen blut was suppose to be.

 

"You don't know how much I'm looking forward to it Burias." he said, meaning ever word of it. "But what was that 'hopefully not kill me' part?" he had to ask as they walked to the facility.

 

"Oh....nothing, nothing at all." Burias said innocently.

As the two drachen walk forward they are stopped as Moira stands in the center of the road.

 

"Hello burias......WHo is this? you two could almost be clones?"

 

She hands both men a bowl of piping hot soup and smiles.

 

"Are you going to go see your sisters?"

Burias accepts the soup with a big smile under his mask. "Danke, Ja I want them to see great grandfather. They are not going to believe it!" he said excitedly. He removed his mask and hooked it on his bet before taking in a spoonful of soup despite its heat, leaving Alduwin be confused for a moment as to who the woman was. "Oh!" Burias realized, still with a mouthful before swallowing. "Great grandfather, Moria mother of cain, Moria Alduwin my great grandfather and one who started drachen blut. Oh Augustus is here." Burias mentioned off hand as he took in another spoonful of good soup. Alduwin held out a hand to her "Nice to meet you then, not many people can deal being with the man in the first place." he said, hoping to break the ice with a joke first and not see someone fly into a fit of rage at the name of Augustus.

MOira gently takes the offered hand with a warm smile, but just below her skin, her blood simmered.

 

"Excuse me..."

 

She says, her hands moving oddly as she moves past them, than breaks into a run, scfreaming like an enraged beast.

 

"AUGUSTUS."

"Ah oh." Burias simply said as he watched the powerful purifier go deal with the man she hated most in her entire life and tried to protect her son from. And then proceeded to take another gulp of soup as he watched. Alduwin was still rather shocked by the sudden change from perfectly happy and polite to a raging hell beast. "I'm guessing Augustus did something to offend his ex-wife a whole lot?" he asked burias. Burias nodded. "Experimenting on cain mostly." Burias said casually. Alduwin just put a hand over his face and shook his head. "Jesus christ Augustus. And here I was going to try flirting with her." he chuckled before turning around and following Moria, running as fast as he could to catch up. "Aw, do we have to?" Burias asked, refering to what he knew his great grandfather was doing. "Ja Burias!" Alduwin yelled. Burias sighed as he got on the comms of his helm. "Cain, Moria knows Augustus is here. Watch out." he said before flipping the channel to his sisters. "If you are coming out here, be careful, Moria knows Augustus is here." he told them, knowing they would understand what that will entail. "And here I was hoping for a nice visit. Guess I'm an idiot for that..." He said to himself as he went to catch up with the other two now.

By the time you both arrive there, cain is standing in front of his father, iron clasing in terrifying blurs in front of the two purifiers.

 

It was quite unnerving the speed and power the purifiers could unleash even tired. Each strike and parry was enough to strike a gash through steel, bt when you look at moira, somethign startling hits uyou.

 

She is being held back. Gripped b y sasha and eva, one holding her armns, the other holding her by the the throat in a headlock. Even restrained she is impossibly precise and vicous.

Augustus says , watching the scene.

 

"If she had full control she would be killing you cain..."

 

Moira lets out a scream of barely contained rage as cain barely parries a sicle blade aimed at his face.

 

"THanks dad! thanks for that!"

"Was zur Hölle ist mit dir los?" Alduwin said, immediately slipping into his native tongue out of reflex at the situation he was seeing as he went up to augustus who looked like he was just watching the whole thing like it was another damn experiment to him. He went up to him and slapped him upside his head, hard. "What the hell man? What did you to piss this woman off so damn much, and why aren't you helping your son? And don't give that 'he can hold his own' bullshit or I'm just going to slap you again for being an asshat you understand?" He said to Augustus, some of the chimera mutation slipping through with just how angry he felt at his best friend for the shit he was pulling. Burias was ignoring the conversation between Alduwin and Augustus as he went straight forward to the battle between cain and his mother. "Wait! Nien! Stop please!" Burias shouted to both of them, well mostly at Moria, as he ran between them to make them stop. It was still in the hope that Moria was still present enough to recognize Burias and slow down for at least a moment.

for a moment, you feel the terrible sensation of something gripping the halves of your brain, as if trying torip your brain in half like a phonebook. but as augustus relaxes, the sensation goes away and he simply smiles.

 

"The reason..Alduin that i cant step in is not from inaction...Its that i simply cannot hurt her."

 one of cains metal rings lashes out and scrapes moiras arm, and a dark black substances leakes down the purifiers arms making her wince.

 

"That...My dear alduin is the products of years of pain self experimentaion.....Of merging obsidian shards into ones bloodsteam."

 

sasha gets her forearm fully arounds moiras throat and locks the hold, and moira goes slack as he eyes glaze.

 

"im guiessing its about time..I tell you all exactly WHY this woman heates me and my guts so much..."

 

with her forcus broken, cain finally relaxes and collapses to his knees, panting hard, but he watches his father expectantly.

 

"LEt us be real alduin....We failed this world. We failed to stop the containment of the virus..We failed to institute a stable government...And more importantly....We failed the children standing in front of us right this second."

 

Augustus goes silent as he leans against a tank.

 

"WHen you slept....I played god.....I committed crimes that would make the history books look pale...ANd i did so to keep this spinning cerulean orb going...Just one more rotation longer. I FAILED more than i ever succeeded. but..."

 

sasha lets moira go and she wobbles to her knees.

 

"After a mountain of failures...Man started to recover...I made walls...I made wells and helped bring man back from the brink and...I felt human again..I married..I had a child....and then.."

 

abel cocks his head at this and augustus frowns sadly.

 

"Dad waht .."

 

Augusuts holds up a hand and continues.

 

"WHen i met moira.....She wasnt part of the purifier church..It was the first time in years i could interact with somone. But as we played house ...He came back...Nightmare came back..Or one of his polyps. I was able to kill it..But i wasnt able to forget those parting words..."

 

Augustus goes silent again than laughs bitterly.

 

"YOure getting weak....."

 

So as i looked through my studies...DO you know waht i found alduin? That our genetic sequence..Is so prehistoric it cannot possibly evolve further...It is why i have to down pills constantly...And you need injections to keep you stable." moiras eyes clear and she listens intently, resisting the urge to curse.

 

"I took the only option i had.....I took my son...Something already with the nautral ability to fuse with the undead gene...And weaponized him....I Sacraficed my happiness...For a chance to end something that wont stop...Will not end .... YOu made that same sacrafice...So did CHelkar..SO did roberto...We dedicated our life..Damned an entire line, to be wards of our mistake...DO you understand now?"

 

everyone stands in stunned silence as moira stands.

 

"Youre..A monster....He was just a baby!"

 

Augustus nods .

 

"I am a demon..A monster...And one day ill pay for what ive done. But until NIghtmare is dead...Ill have to take an reign check on judgement."

 

He claps his hands and looks at alduin.

 

"Does that answer your question?"

"....Jesus fucking christ on a crutch." Alduwin said to himself after Augustus explained what he needed to. He kinda understood things were getting worse in the world when he first woke up from being on ice, but he wasn't ready for all the shit that was laid down on him that Augustus has done not just to his family, but what was done to his own as well. He was leaning against a tank at this point as his head felt like it was spinning at this point. He felt sick, that somehow over the years that Augustus did things that they accused their own governments doing to their people when everything hit the fan for the first time. They weren't that much better either, but at least they were trying to make sure that they didn't go extinct. If it was just some random group of people, he doubted he would have cared as much. But this was their families, their kids who they denied any choice in the matter. Even family members who weren't blood related to them seemed to have been ruined in the process. Is this what what he's been fighting for all those years ago? Is this what it will all lead to in the end? Burias was just standing there between Moria and Cain where he was earlier, happy they weren't fighting now but rather saddened by everything he heard from Augustus. He walks over to Cain and makes sure he was ok for the moment, rather too out of it to really say anything worth saying.

for a long moment, no one talks until cain stands up, and in one fluid movement, he lashes out twice.

 

ALduin is completely knocked off his feet by a brutal uppercut, and augusutus is sent tumbling, only to recover, to see the purifier, panting hard, looking at them both.

 

"Listen to you both....Youre both pathetic old men....Crying about "Family lines..And futures lost."

 

the silencer commander stands, but his leg gives out and he falls to his knee.

 

"You didnt ake a choic e....YOu just pushed the wheel in a direction...You didnt make burias save Julie...Just like you never chose me becoming a silencer....YOu put the hopes of a better tomorrow in our hands becasue youre relics...And you know you cant do it."

 

Cain grips his brothers trenchcoat and stands.

 

" You may have laid the bedrock all those years ago.....And started a mountain with a stone.....But we built it....We fight...We bled...And we did it becasue we all knew it was right."

 

All around them, the black company silencers and commanders begin to press in, embolded by their leaders words.

 

"YOu may have it in your head..That somone needs to validate everything we do...That somone needs to say "Oh...BLabh blah blah died a hero and saved us!"

 

he spits and cleans his chin with the back of his hand.

 

'Youre both foolish....We arent heros..We arent something to go down in some book that ungrateful children will read. We are soldgiers...Like hundreds before us, we march becasue its right....Becasue people need somone to march for them..We dont need ovations or medals...We dont need tories or songs...We do it becasue somewhere..WHen a little boy draws water from a well..He can do it safely without a raider putting an axe to him...'

 

he gives buriases back a gentle slap.

 

"or when a lost boy....Does waht he has to sto survive....SOmones there to show him a way to a new home..Where he can meet friends...Become somone."

 

behind them, sashs puts two fingers in her cheeks and whistles as the rest of black company erupts into cheers.

 

Augustus just looks at his son in shock, as if seeing him for the first time.

 

"if you dont have the stomach to fight anymore....Go back to that lab you crawled out of......We have a wart to win.."

 

Cain says, trying to keep his legs from giving out

Burias moves over to help Cain make sure he doesn't fall down to the ground again as the rest of Black company cheered him on, smiling underneath his gasmask at his brother's words. Looking back to Eva, the vorboten, and the rest of them and then back to Cain before hugging him and letting him go. "We are always there with you bruder." He told, even thought he already knew that. Alduwin, unlike Augustus, was just smiling and grinning at what he saw. They were better than them, more than they ever would be, thank god for that. He just started laughing while sitting on the ground. "That's good boy, you seen the shit we left behind. You better do better than that." Pointing a finger at him in a non serious way as he kept laughing to himself. It was the irony of it all that really got to him, Augustus tried to make better men for the future, yet they were already were. More than he could realized it looks like with the face Augustus had on.

Augustuses face seems to gradually soften. The years of control and emotion building back up like a wall as he walks ove to alduin and helps him up.

 

"looks like i did good after all eh? i mean my son has a mean hook.....And that uppercut wouldve snapped your spine."

 

Moira doesnt take her eyes off of augustus for a long moment, until she gradually smiles, and watches her son for a long moment.

 

the vorboten all crowd around burias and cain, laughing and joking with them both and, sasha walks over to alduin and offers her hand.

 

"I am Sasha dempsey...Senior drachen blut vorboten firestarter......I see you met our baby drachen there?"

Alduwin smiled and shook her hand. "Alduwin Dempsey, old piece of crap I am. I meet Burias and he's a spitting image of my son." he said rubbing Burias' head. "He said your his sister, then that makes you my greatgreatgranddaughter." he said as he pulled her into a big bear hug that he gave Burias earlier as well. "And aren't you all adroable!" he said with family pride. Burias joined in the hug too. "Yeay! Group hug!" Burias declared with them.
