Dawn breaks across the land of Gothistra, the sun cresting the horizon as the villagers awake from their slumber. It is the harvest of Hops and Barley, for the Count of the land, one Lord Count Manchurias, has demanded a tithe of thirteen barrels of alcohol from each of his villages. One by one, the townsfolk shamble from their homes to the village square to begin the harvest - only, they are met with grim news: the Brewmaster, Mister Leoglas Druunkerd, has been found dead in his home. The death signs were conclusive, the prognostication grim. The Brewmaster was murdered in the night.
"By whom?" One man asks. The doctor looks up, slowly removing his glasses.
"By a creature most foul. There is a Werewolf among us."
You all recoil in fear, casting suspicious eyes about the room. It is clear that no one can be trusted, for the beast could be any one of you. And they surely will not give themselves up easily. But there are more pressing matters at hand. The Count demands his beer, and will not be pleased to find the village lacking in its tithe. Nonetheless, there is a Lycanthrope amongst you, and both these issues must be addressed. Thus it is that you go about your day, harvesting - or perhaps planning? For surely the village must succeed in creating the ale - the Count shall surely be able to tell man from beast. So it is that you go about your daily lives; should you harvest the thirteen barrels, the Count shall sort this ghastly business himself with his Huscarls. Nevertheless, you wonder: Can you really sit by while a Werewolf stalks the city streets?
Rules:
The game will have an odd number of players, separated into two teams: The Werewolves and the Villagers.
The Villagers win if they can harvest 13 barrels of ale before the Werewolves win, or if they kill off all the Werewolves.
The Werewolves win if there are as many Werewolves as Villagers at any time (not including the Hunter).
The game starts with one Werewolf, while everyone else is a Villager. Everyone's identity (Villager or Werewolf) is initially unknown. Players can choose whether or not to say they are a Villager, Werewolf (though this will surely lead to an early grave?), or special villager, but it is up to the other villagers to decide whether or not they believe them. Truly, no one can be entirely certain of anybody's true motives...
The game will consist of two phases, a day and night phase.
People still alive may only post in the day. During this time, they may declare three things:
Harvest: Each day phase, each player may harvest either Hops or Barley. For each pair (that is, one of Hops and one of Barley) that is harvested, one barrel of ale is made. Any leftovers are stored and may be used again the next day (so if 2 Hops and 3 Barley are harvested, the remaining Barley is kept, and may be used with Hops).
Vote for a Brewmaster: The brewmaster is responsible for making the Ale. If no Brewmaster is elected, no barrels of ale will be made. The day's harvest will be lost. So make sure you vote. However, the Brewmaster's harvest does not count - he's too busy making ale to harvest.
Vote to lynch: The villagers won't sit by while a Werewolf ravages the town. However, there is little one man can do to stop a beast hiding amongst you. Each day, you may vote to lynch someone. It can be anyone - even yourself. However, only a majority vote will result in a lynch. You cannot vote for no lynch - however, as a village you might decide to abstain from killing in case you kill an innocent. In short, at the end of each day, whoever has the majority of votes (even if that is only one vote) will be killed. Their identity will then be revealed.
People that are dead may only post at night. During this time, different groups may do different things.
The Werewolf may choose to either: Turn a villager, or to kill a villager. Or, they may simply remain passive. Werewolves must come to a decision and PM the collective result to me. If they cannot agree, then nothing will happen. A lone Werewolf must PM his result to me.
Two special villagers may act in this time. They are the Mystic and the Hunter.
The Mystic may request the Magistrate (Me) to see the identity of any one person per night. They will then know their identity. How they use this information is up to them.
The Hunter may kill one person every night (again, PM me the decision). He counts as his own team, not as a villager or Werewolf. Until the Hunter kills a Werewolf, he wins by preventing the Villagers from brewing thirteen barrels of beer until Werewolf victory (assuming he survives). If the Hunter kills a Werewolf, he becomes a Villager including for the purposes of victory conditions. Note: this means the Hunter and Werewolf can both win.
The Brewmaster may appoint any living player as a guard for another player (via PM to the Magistrate (me)). The guard will die if the other player should have died instead. If the guard dies, it will be announced, as well as the protection detail he was assigned. If the guard survives the night, he will not be able to harvest the next day.
Each phase will last 24 hours in real time, from 12PM GMT (UK time) to the same time the next day. At the end of each phase I will tally up the votes and post the results. For each day phase, that is:
Total Barrels of Ale brewed
Votes to lynch (If any)
Votes for Brewmaster
Each Night phase:
Deaths in the night (causes unnamed)
The Hunter becomes a villager (if applicable)
The Mystic will anonymously receive their information.
Living players may only post a question to the Magistrate during the day phase; similarly dead players may only post questions during the night phase. Either party may PM the Magistrate questions at any time.
Any questions about the game can be posted now before we begin. This is also the signup thread.
