In summary:

Kirby is stepping down. However, he will remain on the board "If they'll have [him]."

The year sucked in terms of profits, but hey, we're "sustainable"... right?

3D printing is a myth. We know more about it than you. Shut up.

Haters gon' hate.

Thoughts?

3D printing 40k models works, done it. Not good for high detail characters, great for scrubs (troops)

I've just bought one of each type of scrub then I've had a buddy print copies for me. Spent about 50 dollars total to get about $800 of orks if I went thru GW.

If I get a 3D printer, I can effectively make a 1 man assembly line for making and painting Necron Warriors en masse.

Judge not, that ye be not judged.

For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

A friend of mine who I got into the hobby used an industrial 3d Printer at his school, he reprinted a Chaos Army starter box about 3 times.

Yeah, 3D printing and their prices is pretty much a death toll for them

I dont see how they thought they could keep jacking up  prices on pieces of platic that actually cost pennies to make. 20 bucks for 10 boyz? ha, laughable.

It'll be many years before they probably learn otherwise, until them I'm avoiding their hobby products like the plague. It's that or they continue as they do and eventually go bankrupt. Then we can abuse their IPs as much as we want :P

Know a person who knows a guy that owns a big top of the range 3D printer, and can do dreadnoughts and higher quality models with no drop off in quality, for a far smaller cost than anything GW thinks is 'acceptable'. Doesn't work too great for small high quality HQ's though.

But this is GW we're talking about. If they stick their heads in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist, the problem will go away. Like this Facebook and Internet malarky.

I want whatever they're smoking, because theirs is a fine ass madness.

This is a fine verse. Is there a source or is this beautiful sentence in fact original? I only wish I'd prompted it so that I can quote it in my signature.

3D printing will be the salvation of their specialist games, such as Battlefleet Gothic. If I can ever afford a printer then I will start experimenting, miss playing that greatly

inb4 GW starts using 3D printers to make premade armies/models.

And continues to charge more money than before, a la the metal to resin thing.

And it's by that logic people like me will be avoiding/leaving them more and more.

Hey, Privateer Press (Warmachine/Hordes) are making a killing and exploding in popularity. Their tanks cost less than the equivalent of a SM Tactical Squad box. Some of the metal elite units cost more than an SM Tactical Squad, but only because they're equivalent of a full squad of Seer Council and made of metal. They're transitioning to plastic, but not in any rush about it.

It's cool Priest, I don't either - though apparently our uni has one. Hmm.

JC - that verse was prompted by YGOTAS, partially. Otherwise that shit's all mine.

I've already been priced out by GW, so I'm not in any rush to buy lower quality products for the same price in a couple of years. Assuming they survive that long. Because, when it comes down to it, GW have released in the past year:

A new edition of 40K

A new Space marine codex

As well as several other codexes, updates, etc. The thing is, two historically big sellers which have always brought in profits have failed to brign GW a profit this time. In fact, they're barely breaking even, whether or not you if you believe Kirby's drivel. I believe the next financial report is due in about 6 months, and it certainly shall be interesting - I doubt they'll make profits without radical change. Kirby stepping down is an indicator of the coming decline, I think.

3D printing works really well on Nids, they have very little micro-detail on their models. The big challenge is getting the 3D design needed to print from; I'm curious how other people overcome this problem - the University near me has some PHD students building a CAT Scanner and trying to improve upon the concept, while the PHD students in the next room over have a $50000 US 3D printer - first thing through, they scanned and printed a Tardis.

With Warmachine Tactics landing mid August, and the price of Warmachine plus other competitors, I think GW is about to get hammered in the run up to Xmas. They have overpriced models and use rule rewrites to increase sales, driving away their traditional fanbase of lower and middle class players, and no new (high quality) games in the immediate future.
