So now that games workshop has officially released the Mk IV horus heresy space marines in plastic, I was wondering what the general opinions of the kits are?

Personally I am wary that the price is a bit too steep (even by GW standards) yet at the same time I can see a lot of potential with the new kits, especially for kitbashing with my current space marine and chaos space marine armies, as well as personalising them with a range of third party bits.

I would like to do a HH force, just no idea which legion I would pick... too many favourites!

Ouch

Their current patterns show ever increasing prices and reliance on pushing special kits and models, over standard kits. Really hope this doesn't mean I need to give two kidneys when BFG is re-released for tabletop.

Anyway, are you trying to supplement an existing force with heresy armour, or create a heresy legion to play under the HH ruleset? If the former then pick a legion which looks similar to your current force, if the latter pick the one based on playstyle.

If you wanna do a HH army, Forge World still do the best models. Got my Iron Hands army built up with conversion kits from there. You will likely find better faction Specific there as well. The Plastic Horus Heresy models by GW aint particularly the best to be fair with you.

Oh yeah, certainly not cheap by any means, but most certainly worth it. Hopefully, if I ever get round to building a White Scars army, I intend to get the conversion kits, make em look fancy.

I was thinking of doing a iron hands heresy force, maybe even some kind of shattered legions coalition...

I currently have a 40K dark angels strike force, and a chaos army. I would maybe use the horus heresy army as an ally for the former in 40K games if needs be

I have seen some excellent bits around on the internet that would enable me to make a stunning iron hands army, and at this stage I want to do it from a modelling perspective more than a gaming one. I think that I would use the forgeworld kits to enhance certain units and add elites, as their prices are just too far outside of my means

University has me financially crippled so I know the pain here... so many good ideas for the tabletop, just not the funds to pursue them

A Salamanders 30k force of would look amazing if painted well. I am also crippled financially, but I am planning ahead to finish my Tau.

Ah University, I remember thee well; thou forced me to sell $10,000 of Warhammer to cover a $1,500 shortfall in living expenses thanks to the recession doing away with all the student jobs.

Side effect is once you have stable pay you go nuts on buying stuff you shouldn't - says he thinking about his $500 worth of Warmachine collected within a year

I crave the days of financial stability - if such a thing even exists!

Thinking of supplementing my hobby by contracting as a website designer or something by the end of my degree - should have enough money in it to keep a hobby-habit fuelled for a little while anyway

Can do freelance web design while at Uni, plenty websites that facilitate it.

If you learn how to play with IPB Content then you might make some money outta GWRS when EC gets close
