I will soon begin the swordsman tournament. Mircosoft points to the winners. Assault only no pistols or grenades. Now, should there be perks or not?

Please do not ask to be added yet I will add people when the tournament is underway.

The tournament will begin after the Gothic Wars Tournament that begins July 1st in concluded so there is no conflict.

Depends. If there using The Zeal perks or Killing Blow thats unfair as well as Blast off and Death from above.

So I would say no.

well my friend, killing blow would be a hammer perk. This is a sword tourney.

perks give people advantages and disadvantages making it unfair in some peoples eyes, however this isn't maths there isn't one specific answer what i mean is that just because that person has swordsman's zeal doesn't mean he will beat you also lag unfortunately counts towards your decision making as anyone can win any fight with lag

i say that you should have perks however people are only aloud to use one set of perks in a match and if they change well that's your decision

No there should not be any perks used.

I say allow them, and for this reason:

Forcing everyone to play a single non conventional style is a "perk" in it of itself, except in that only those who are accustomed to it can actually "use them".
The perk can add a lot more tactics to the table. Idk about you Zeal and Death for Above does make a nasty combo in a sword dual, until they find themselves against a wily veteran with Sure Strike and Furious Charge that is...

Of this I am aware Brother, thanks all the same though. Besides I'm a Tac Marine to the core so unless I can play as a TAC ( and only used my combat blade which I would love to do! ) then I be in my rack...

As for Cyphers tournaments, he always makes it interesting. Plus there is always some form of goodie up for grabs.... o shit I forgot to transfer the money for pistol tournament prize. Busy Cru was busy oO

I think the perks give more options in this kind of battle. You need to be able to keep the other guy on his toes and change your tactics up if something isn't working for you.

I am really appreciating all the input on this tornament. As I said before I'm just waiting for the july first to be finished then the swords shall be wielded

With the latest question being asked of who are some of the best swordsmen on spacemarine I am hoping for more input on perks or not. I also hope to see many of our Gothic War brothers participating.

BTW. I was a little offended my name was not mentioned as one of the best swordsmen but I will have to just settle for the sexiest swordsmen.

My reasoning for no perks is simple. Some of the perks are cheesy for duels, True Grit, Death From above etc...

Take that away and force someone to play bare bones with nothing but their sword and skill. Either way I will play, and I will do my best to see that Random and Death play as well.

I would like to participate either way, but I would be in favor of perks because it allows for greater variety. I would further allow pistols and grenades... I realize you're looking to see who the best swordsman is, but if you disallow perks and take away all other weapons as well, you're left with who gets the first swing in and who has less lag in their connection... to me that isn't much of a contest of skill.

Perks, pistols, and grenades create greater variety, and force players to do more thinking, at least in my opinion. "Do I take the Bolt Pistol to finish off a weakened opponent, or the Plasma Pistol to strip armor before I get within the reach of my blade? Blind grenades to stun the enemy, or combat stims to enable a faster kill?"

In my opinion, the skill of the Swordsman is not limited to his ability to press "X" on his controller; it is the forsight to choose effective loadouts and the skill to use ALL of the tools at his disposal. However, even if you insist on leaving the pistols and grenades out of the equation, I would still recommend you allow perks.
