Sins of A Solar Empire, or Sins ([Sins] tag) for short is a real time strategy game that quite simply makes almost every other RTS game look like Tic Tac Toe.
You pick one of 3 races, and then either Rebel or Loyalist sub-faction.
- TEC - Much like the Imperium, crude but effective ships, powerful economy
- Advent - Much like the Eldar, make heavy use of drone craft and conversion technology to maniplulate others
- Vasari - Much like the Necrons, an ancient alien race with supreme mastery of phase technology
Each race has different strengths and weaknesses, further complicated by the inclusion of sub-factions on Rebellion.
The map is made up of a collection of stars which are all linked together by deep space phase lanes (for which you need a research to use). Each star is surrounded by a collection of celestial bodies with gravity wells, all connected by phase lanes.

You will start owning one planet, and need to expand along phase lanes to other planets. You will need to upgrade planets, build facilities and defences and repel attacks. Just to make it even more interesting, there are Pirates who will attack the player with the most "bounty" on their head.
One of the defining features of this game, and the main cause of it's high end system requirements, is detail. You can zoom right the hell in and watch you're ships broadside.

Do not believe the system requirements on the box, you will need to be near the max specs suggested before you can play this online. When you have thousand of ships shooting and exploding in multiple stars, it will strain your PC.
Both Kite and I play this, and would be interested in getting some more people. Games can take upward of 16 hours, but you can save and resume multiplayer games, so that's not much of an issue.
So the question becomes....
