Well the Heresy is really turning out to be a great epic volume of novels, that really should be read by anyone that considers themself a 40k fan. But Grey Knights are awesome too but on a much smaller scale. I'd say, start with some HH and finish the Sons of Horus story arch. Like the first 3 or 4 books, then take a break and grab some GKs! Enjoy Man, it's gonna be a hell of a ride!
thanks, i usually read the short stories such as 'heroes of the space marines' but i keep hearing how amazing these two series are and figured id ask which i should read first

You will really enjoy them all and there are even a few of the short story collections books in the HH!
