COPPA and Email Verification

Just a quick notification we have enabled both these systems.
COPPA - this is a legal system that requires you to register your date of birth when you register. If you are under 13 you have to print a form and have your guardians issue parental permission to join the site.
If someone under 13 registers as over 13, we are legally protected from the consequences should their parents learn and disapprove of things they have been exposed to on here.
Basically for us to get larger we need to cover the legal aspects, this is one of them. It won't affect existing members, so it's a courtesy to let ya know.
Email Verification - we have a lot of people who just type in their email, copy paste it and hit submit. This means the newsletters, emails and notifications do not go to them. When the system fails to email them, it eagerly spams the admin emails with notification of its failure.
In order to eliminate the mistakes you now are required to verify your account upon registration. It will not affect existing members.
We will find a way to grandfather this in, so everytime you change the email you need to re-verify it again, but for now it just affects new members.
Force Read - We now have the ability to set mark a thread that users MUST access before they can continue onto using the forum like normal. We will use this to notify of critical updates, such as rule changes. Once you login once it should not bother you again until we change the post.

To be just, our law must be cruel.
To stand upon the bedrock of law is our great duty. To presume to stand above it is our worst heresy.
We determine the guilty. We decide the punishment.
