Also normally squad based captains lead certain squads like I'm leading all twelfth tactical.

So squad captains are in charge of Multiple squads (EG:100men) And Squad sergents are in charge of singular squads (30men)?

so there are 10000 men in a legion. 1000 men in a cohort (40k cohort anyway), 100 men in a company, 30 men in a squad? Is that right

Eh, no. There's about 50,000 to 220,000 per legion ten thousand may have been standard legion chapter, and company is about three hundred men based on what I've read in the Horus heresy books. Thirty man squads I'm basing off of forge world new Horus heresy books.

It changes from legion to legion for example the thousand sons were the most similar to 40k chapters as they numbered only 10'000

Yes. I can see where they come from as the smurfs must of had over 30000 'cause their numbers swelled after the two who shall not be named were 'disposed' of. The Imperial fists had a large count too.
