Thaes slightly smirked to himself. "Looks like Shale will have to choke down what he said about your father before." he chuckled slightly. "He didn't just hunt it down, he contained damians pet so someone can metaphorically come around later and poke it with a stick. More then most people could have done I bet." he added. He took the ring out and compared the diameter of it to his twig like finger to the massive ring. "Yea...this is going to have to stay in the box for now."  He said as he placed it back, realizing it would just simply slid off easily the whole time.

Johten folds his arms.

"the call is yours to make Thaes....We can mobilize after the ghouls...Or we can go pay Scythe a visit."

".....The ghouls guarding those labs will still be there, and Jarvan mentioned that there is a lab stationed in a dead hive close to here. I think it's about time to see what makes stalks so special, so I say scythe before Damien wants his pet back." He answered Johten before looking over to Jessica. "What you going to do now? Not sure there's much here for you to do now that you're...you know, not dying." he asked her with an unsure shrug.

jessica stands weakly.

 

"Ill go see a few things......But ive got something ive got to handle before its too late."

"Well.....that sounds ominous." Thaes remarked before sliding the box into a pouch compartment for safer keeping. "Do I even want to know what got you talking like that?" he asked this time, wondering what it could be now in the situation everyone seems to be getting stuck in.

there is a loud clap and jessica vanishes.

 

The skies openm and jarvan looks at thaes.

 

"Get each and every one of your tools......We have a long night ahead of us."

He stared out the now open window toward the skies that now darken now from the sun moving and the clouds gathering back up. "Right...right." Thaes said quietly as he stood back up. He gathered himself and walked toward the room where the workers would have more than likely dropped his bags. One backpack and a large hand carried bag, both carrying most if not all of his portable devices he needed for biological works. Although admittingly, he would need a lab for more complex things, and holding a live specimen. He clicked a button on his wristmounted computer to have the pale ghoul retinue gather to him and had Mr. Toothy clamber back onto him. "Ready when you two are, should tell mother first though.." he called out before walking back out to do just that.

Johten stops , his head lowering for a moment."

 

Go ahead and tell her.....Well await you at the edge of town....Hurry up comrade."

"Yes, yes." Thaes said absentmindedly as he walked back up the hallway, toward where he last remember seeing his mother. He knocked on the door lightly. "Mother?" he called, doing it out of habitual politeness. He couldn't but help wonder what was going on back in the states with mother Nocturne now after leaving. The whole situation was alien to him and only made him more anxious then he should before he just pushed the thoughts aside for now.

"Yes boy? i hear johtens heading to the facility where they hare holding the beast......."

 

She smiles weakly.

 

"Im guessing thats where They are taking you yes?"

"Yes mam." he answered with a nod. "I guess you heard most of what happened already?" He asked her, standing at the doorway. He knew he didn't have much time to have the conversation, but it was also the last chance he knew he would get before being gone for awhile all over again. "I'm sure everything will be fine." he tried to assure her, despite his usual pessimistic thought process.

SHe nods.

 

"Make me a promise boy.."

 

she says, not even turning to look at you while she cleans a knife .

 

 

"No matter waht that beast says....Do not...DO NOT let him into your head."

Thaes stood silently for a moment before leaning back and looking down the hallway. Seeing that it looked clear for the moment he ducked back inside and took a seat close to the desk. "......Mother, just how much do you know about this thing?" he asked, already concluding she knew much more. Thaes didn't even think of asking her mother of the thing that lived in the forest, but now it seemed obvious with what has happened while he was gone.

"i know....Everything about it."

 

She says simply, cleaning her medical tools.

 

"That beast.....That monstrocity is the reason we could survive here orginally. He was one of the first ghouls to gain sentience. His name back then was Bjarl...He prowled the jungles , attacking cannibals and ghouls to give humans the chance to survive here. But one day....He just changed."

"So he wasn't always daimen's pet, but does anyone else know this?" he asked her now. He wondered if the change was either so long ago most wouldn't even know, or the change was so drastic both physically and mentally that know one would knew who it orginally was at first glance. "And...how do you know this mother?" he asked as well.

she looks at a book.

 

"Books Thaes.....Journals....Logs....Our pweople cataloghed everything...Its how it was...That thing got captured by damien and changed in a day.....No one understands why. BUt from that day on he became the worst thhing in this sand."

"That sounds like Damien has something, I'm not sure what, if he can make a conversion so complete, so swiftly, and so easily..." Thaes thought a loud. "Could be worse if he can apply that to other sentient beings as well." he said, fearing it might also be effective on certain mutagen users. "Is there anything else I should know mother? I don't think Johten and Jarvan are going to wait much longer at this point." he asked as he stood up, knowing how impatient the two felines can be.

"Johten......Be...Careful around him. Hes not a danger...To you... BUt the night his father died....He did something i would never expect from him. Do you remember the armadillos? The bandiot tribe that used to raid us?"

 

 

She turns, facing you now.

 

"After the night when his father fell, he vanished until dawn. His fur was crusted.....Absolutely disgusting....... We passed their camp a couple of days later...And found nothing but corpses. That tiger is long winded..but when his temper explodes..."

He gave a quick nod. "Right....lightening in a bottle." Thaes said quietly as he headed for the door. "I'll careful and try to get something useful out of this. Something that could help, or at least get us to understand somethings. Just pleas be careful here, Not sure what damien or even the other tribes will be willing to do without the three around in their villages right now." he said, growing bit anxious now having said the thought. He just wanted to be in a lab at this point, working on things he does understand and not the uncertainty everything else has been bringing. Even with the few people he thought he knew.

she nods as you walk out and stumble straight into your fathers chest.
